When a crane is cheaper than climbing
A crane pick sounds like the expensive option and often is not. Rigging a large tree down in small pieces over a house can take a crew two days; the same tree lifted out in four picks can be done in a morning. Where there is genuinely no drop zone — a mature red oak between a house and a pool, say — the crane is frequently both the safest method and the lower bid.
It needs setup room. A crane needs a stable pad within reach of the tree, clear of overhead lines, and a path to get there. Where that is not available, the answer goes back to conventional rigging.
Overhead lines set the limits
Minimum approach distances to energised conductors are not negotiable and they govern where a crane can set up and how it can swing. If the only workable position puts the boom inside those distances, the utility has to de-energise or cover the line first. That is a scheduling reality, not an obstacle we work around.

Crane Tree Removal — frequently asked
How long does the work usually take in North Texas?
Most residential jobs are a single day. A straightforward trim on one or two trees is a half day; a large removal that has to be rigged over a house can run two. We give you a realistic window in the written estimate rather than a hopeful one.
Do I need to be home while you work?
No, as long as we have access and have already walked the job with you. Plenty of North Texas customers are at work while we are there. We will call before we start and send photos when we finish.
What happens to the wood chips?
They leave with us by default. If you want them, say so — chip is good mulch, it is free, and it is better for beds than most of what is sold in bags. Just keep it off the trunk.
Can you work near power lines?
Up to a point. Anything in contact with a service drop or a primary conductor is the utility's to clear first — we do not cut energised lines and neither should anyone who is not a qualified line-clearance crew. We handle everything outside those clearances.
Do you charge extra for difficult access?
It is priced into the quote rather than added afterwards. Access is the single biggest cost driver in this trade, which is why we look at every job in person instead of quoting from a description.
Is there a minimum charge?
There is a practical minimum because getting a crew and equipment to North Texas costs the same whether the job takes one hour or four. If you have several small jobs, bundling them into one visit is much better value.
What if I only want an opinion, not work done?
That is fine and it is free. A fair share of what we look at does not need what it was quoted for. We would rather tell you that and be the people you call next time.
Do you give free estimates in North Texas?
Yes. Someone comes out, looks at the tree, and you get a written price with the scope spelled out — no charge and no obligation. We do not quote tree work over the phone from a description, because the things that change the price (access, what is underneath, how the wood has to come out) are not visible from a description.
